Recently the Richmond Friends School Pre-K/K class visited the Sunrise Therapeutic Riding Stable in Richmond IN. (See video below)
Sunrise is dedicated to offering therapy to people of all ages and varying disabilities. Riding horses builds confidence and gives freedom to people who otherwise may feel they are mostly immobile.
The horses are specially trained to attend to the needs of each person riding them. The horses must be mild tempered, gentle and very calm. The horse shown in the video is Ed, an Appaloosa who is 33 years old and has been with Sunrise for at least 20 years.
Sunrise Therapeutic Riding Stables, according to Amanda Joris, director (seen in video), has been around since the 80’s serving people and training horses. She herself is a trainer, as well as being director in her first full year with Sunrise.
You can visit their website to see how you can support the wonderful work they do. And if you know someone who could benefit from their services give them a call. In addition to their therapeutic work, they also lead fieldtrips such as the one seen in the video below.
Many thanks to Amanda for taking time out of her busy day to show our class around!

yeah well I think we should start a Where’s Mary Grace instead of Waldo?
