Editorial,  by Karole Passmorego vote

Today is election day all over Wayne County.  Many people are rushing to the polls before work, at lunch, or plan to vote after work. Yet I must admit that I was one of the many less motivated voters, and waited until last night before I decided that I would vote today.

You would think it would be a no-brainer for me if you knew me.  I majored in history at Earlham with a focus on women’s history.  I understand the struggle that brought the vote to women, less than 100 years ago.  And as my sons would say, I am a women’s rights supporter.  (they would say it differently, and with a tone that goes well with eye-rolling).

Yet, living in a much smaller town in Wayne County it seemed like my vote really wouldn’t make a difference.  But as I said to myself leaving the polls today- what the heck was I thinking?  How could I pass up my right to vote when so many struggled for me to have that right?  It’s a right that none of us can take for granted, as historically it’s not a right many of our ancestors had before coming to this country.

By our votes we have the ability to make great changes and support positive growth where we live, work and play!  I am so glad I voted now and I hope you will as well.

Happy voting day!
