Cambridge City Is Finalist in “PerservINg Main Street”
On July 23, 2021, Cambridge City was named as one of only five finalists from several small towns in Indiana in the running for a very important program available to historic towns, called PreservINg Main Street.
According to the selection committee, ““While we saw many great applications, these five communities really stood out. We look forward to continue working with these finalists and visiting the communities in the next steps.” The committee continues to explain the next steps and the outcome potential for this amazing opportunity: “The pilot community selected will be eligible for implementation funds of up to $2 million through OCRA’s Community Development Block Grant program, along with multiple capacity building opportunities through a partnership with Main Street America, Indiana Humanities and Indiana Landmarks.” The other communities in the running are Attica, Brookville, Kendallville, and Jasper.
The $2 million dollar award could literally improve the face of Cambridge City if they are selected. The projects will include upgrades to the facades on Main Street, as well as offer long term sustainability implementing among other things a permanent paid position that will potentially oversee the many projects.
The winning town will be announced soon on September 10, 2021.
