  • Richmond Community: HELP SAVE TOWNSEND COMMUNITY CENTER, ATTEND TOWN HALL MEETING
September 20, 2016

townsend-centerPress Release: From Townsend Community Center

The Townsend Community Center was established on the north side of Richmond in 1921 as community engagement center, a place for the neighborhood to receive educational services, recreation and a place to gather.

Over time the community center has evolved to meet the changing needs of the community and the city of Richmond but, sadly this organization has lacked the funding needing to maintain their program offerings and the building.

The Townsend Community Center closed its doors a few years ago but was able to reopen in 2015 unfortunately they are at risk of closing again.  It’s an opportunity for the city to rally around this organization and their mission of providing services to the residents of Richmond.  The Townsend Community Center’s alumni and long time adovcate Dr. Lucinda Wright is hosting a public Town Hall to address the needs of the Townsend Community Center.  Everyone is welcome to attend.

The Townsend Community Center provides many services like Senior Food Pantry and educational programs.  Community members, community leaders and business leaders  are welcome to attend the Town Hall to learn more about this organization’s impact on the local community.

TOWNSEND COMMUNITY CENTER TOWN HALL MEETING WILL BE HOSTED AT THE FOLLOWING:

 MT. OLIVE BAPTIST CHURCH

1108 NORTH “H” STREET

RICHMOND, IN 47374
