  • Libraries in Wayne County IN: Awesome Winter Activity Spots
January 26, 2018

What’s free, educational, warm and filled with family friendly activities?  Your local library!  And in Wayne County, we have so many choices.  Morrisson Reeves in Richmond, Centerville Library, Cambridge City Library and the Hagerstown Library.  And each library offers fun activities year round.

Here’s just a sample of some of the winter activities your libraries are offering now:

Cambridge City Library:

According to their website, “The library is celebrating National Puzzle Day on Monday, January 29th.  Come by the library and work a puzzle to enter a drawing for a prize!  All ages and abilities are welcome to enter.  The contest will continue during all hours the library is open, from  9:00 a.m. – 7:30 p.m.”

They are also offering an art display by Kate Wallace, a junior at Lincoln High School.  February will bring book club opportunities morning and evening, and the Overbeck Museum is housed in the library filled with pottery and art from the well known Overbeck sisters collection.  Check out their events here.

Centerville Library:

Centerville Library offers ongoing activities and clubs like the Anime Club for tweens that meets every Thursday at 4:00 p.m. and Artist Club for all ages.  The theme for Artist Club in February will be rock painting, February 19, 5:30 -6:30 p.m.   Every Wednesday, new or seasoned crocheters can meet to learn about crochet or knitting at Casual Crochet Corner.  And children of all ages can gather to make valentines on Valentines Day, February 14, from 3:30 to 4:30 on Make & Take Valentines day.    Visit their calendar here.

Morrisson Reeves Library:

Like many of the libraries in Wayne County, MRL has something for everyone!  From their “Novel Conversations” book club, featuring the book Hillbilly Elegy in February, S.T.E.M and Art Clubs on Thursdays for kids six and up, Free Tax Service, and programs linked to the community like the Chili Cookoff that took place in conjunction with the Meltdown activities in January, you will want to check regularly on their Facebook page and website to see what’s happening at MRL.

Don’t let the winter blues get you down.  With all these opportunities waiting for you and your family, why not spend time at your local library today?  And what can be better than bringing home a bag of books to snuggle up to under a cozy warm blanket?  Winter is a wonderful time to introduce yourself to new authors and new worlds of the printed word.  Adventures are waiting!
