I can do it! Swimming Lessons at Cordell Pool

by Karole Passmore

Also included, Hagerstown Information by Christina Biddle Walker

This year the Richmond Parks Department has an even bigger array of activities for kids and families to enjoy!  Starting Saturday (tonight) at dusk the first of the Outdoor Movie series begins.

Cars will play at Westview Elementary on Saturday as the sun goes down and prior to the movie at 8:30 there will be kids games.  The movies are free and concession stands are available with inexpensive snacks.  They have also added a series of movies on Roosevelt Hill this summer.

The first session of swimming lessons at the Cordell Municipal pool started this week and will run for one more week before the next session. (contact the Park Office if you are interested in your child having lessons).  As you can see from the pictures they are having a good time.  (see also video below).

Learning To Swim At The First Summer Session

JUKO and Art In The Park also started this week and is going strong.  Kids are swimming, getting messy, creating, making new friends, and enjoying life.  Stay tuned for more events for kids and family offered by the Parks Department on GoWayneCounty.com.  (Up next…Independence week fun).

Events include the traditional Saturday morning Jubilee Days parade, a festival market that features fair foods, fresh locally raised produce and a vast selection of arts/crafts, a Kid’s Zone with rides and activities, a variety of musical entertainment, the crowning of the Jubilee Days Sight Queen and a teen dance. A more specific list of events will be posted on the Hagerstown website (hagerstown.in.gov/) closer to the date.

Elsewhere in Wayne County, Cope Environmental center has started their fun summer programs for kids of all ages.  Hayes Arboretum is also offering fun outdoor learning activities.  Richmond Friends School will be offering Theatre Camp next week M-F, from 8:30 – 12:30.  If your child is interested you can call the school for more information.

If you have any pictures to share of kids and families having fun this summer at these or any other events/programs please send them to Karole@gowaynecounty.com as an attachment and tell us what is happening in them.  We will post them here or on our Facebook site.

Have a safe and exciting summer! (Find more pictures on our Go Wayne County facebook site).
