Just recently I discovered an area of town which is a bit hidden from view–a gem that is worth looking for in Richmond Indiana.
I heard people talking about this area by the Cardinal Greenway N. entrance called the “Warehouse,” and had no idea what they were talking about since I didn’t know where N. 3rd Street was, and didn’t think I had ever been there. (It is in easiest terms “behind the jail” off N. 2nd Street) So I set out to find it to deliver some of the print editions of GoWayneCounty.
As I pull in, the first thing I see is the Greenway Cafe which I discover later is run by the owner of Palais Royale–whose food I have always loved. The man who physically manages the cafe daily is one of the Mosey brothers–very personable and excited about this new venture. Next to the Cafe is a bicycle shop and around the corner a family fitness center –all new to the community.

Last Saturday we luckily made it to the Cafe before it closed to have a late lunch (the hours are 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. Monday – Saturday–Friday is 10 a.m. – 8 p.m. ). As we walk up to the door I see to our left that another door is open that I haven’t seen before. Jennifer Wetherell is in the cafe as we walk in and I ask her about the business and she says “oh that’s the indoor skateboard park, it’s been there for two years.” (And her husband David Wetherell runs it each week).
So how do I live in Richmond and not know we have an indoor skate park? Am I the only one? Anyway I go to check it out and it is really amazing. Not a cheesy park with little wood ramps–these appear to be actual full size ramps and–well I don’t know what you call them but anyway it was impressive. There is also a skateboard shop. The Wetherell’s daughter gave my 5 year old a treat of watching her on the big ramp–so now we have to invest in a helmet I guess.
The hours at the Board’s Inc. skate park are Mon-Fri 5-8 p.m. and Saturday from 3 – 8 p.m. For more information you can call David at 935-3158. (The Wetherells are a lovely family who also do Civil War reenacting as a family–Jennifer is a school teacher–you can trust your kids with them).
Happy Skate Boarding! And let us know at GWC how you like it.
