FOUNTAIN CITY – Contractors for the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) plan to begin full-depth pavement repairs and resurfacing on U.S. 27 next week.
The project will require closing U.S. 27 to through traffic between the town’s incorporated limits for up to five days at a time beginning Monday, Sept. 22. Weather permitting, the highway closure is expected to repeat Monday through Friday for four consecutive weeks. The highway is expected to be closed for a maximum total of twenty days. Access to all local businesses and residents will remain available.
The official signed detour will direct through traffic on U.S. 27:
• Northbound – west on I-70, north on U.S. 35/Williamsburg Pk. (Exit 149B), and east on U.S. 36
• Southbound – west on U.S. 36, south on U.S. 35, and east on I-70 to U.S. 27 (Exit 151)
Representatives from INDOT and Milestone Contractors plan to be at the Fountain City municipal building (312 W. Main St.) on Tuesday, Sept. 16 at 7 p.m. to discuss project plans and answer questions. The $640,000 contract calls for full-depth pavement repairs, a complete asphalt resurface, and the installation of curb ramps.
