Wayne County is home to several colleges that afford wonderful opportunities for quality entertainment and learning experiences.

Earlham College

Earlham College, the oldest of all higher education institutions in the area, regularly offers events on campus that are open to the public and range in price from free to a minimal cost for entry.

Here is a short list of upcoming events, including a high energy music event coming Saturday, November 12, 2016.

JazzCussion 2016 | November 12,  8-9:30 p.m

Located in the Arts Atrium on the Earlham campus, JazzCussion will offer Brazilian music (Samba, Bossa Nova, music of Candomble, Maracatu and Samba Reggae) by the percussion and jazz programs at Earlham College. Come ready to dance the night away.  Free admission, no tickets required.

Ritual Gamelon Music from Java | December 2, 7:30 – 9:30 p.m

Located in the Lingle Recital Hall on the Earlham Campus.  Come listen to music from the island of Java in Indonesia–possibly the only place in the world where instrumental music is regularly performed on the grounds of a mosque. Earlham may well be one of the only places outside of Java that has the special instruments to perform this sixteenth-century tradition called Gamelan Sekatèn. Other rarely heard genres that will be presented include newer forms of Islamic gamelan music, as well as Christian and pre-Islamic ritual musics.  Free admission, no tickets required.

Convopella 2016 | December 7, 1-2:30 p.m.

Located in Goddard Auditorium. Freshly Brewed is the premier female a cappella ensemble at Butler University in Indianapolis, Indiana. Established in 2006, they arrange and cover everything from Miley Cyrus to Van Morrison. Join Freshly Brewed and the Earlham A Capella Groups for the traditional end of the semester Convopella!  Free admission, no ticket required.

Check back for more events at Earlham, IU East and Ivy Tech that are open to the public.  And remember to check out our calendar for new events around Wayne County that are posted regularly.  To submit and event, please send information to Karole@GoWayneCounty.com.
