Why Buying  Local Now Is So Important

Like many of us, you may be wondering how in the world our friends who own local businesses are surviving during these unprecedented times.

The sad answer is, not all are surviving.  And this is why now more than ever it is important for each of us to support local businesses in Wayne County IN.

Every year GoWayneCounty.com has made the push for buying local.  It is important to our family to support our hometown and all who work and live here.  Small local businesses are the foundation of our economy and bring unique and positive benefits to our community.

Who do you call when you need a donation for a non-profit?  Or catering for a special event?  Where do you go to get a personal touch from local people who actually do care about you and their community?  Let’s be real, Amazon could care less about our kid’s baseball team or the local animal shelter.  There is no payback from buying online other than a good deal which can mean bad things for the environment if overused.

So this season here are some ideas for supporting your favorite local businesses if you want to see them survive during these very difficult times:

Gift cards/Certificates:

Most local shops and restaurants/cafes offer gift cards.  This is an awesome way to show support and to help keep small businesses afloat.  When things return to normal people will want to eat out much more and will be ready to shop again.

Call For Pickup:

Most local restaurants and cafes, like Roscoes, New Boswell Brewery, Little Shebas and the Tin Lizzie Cafe, are still doing business and would love to hear from you! Be sure to think of them when treating yourself to lunch during the holidays or if you want a socially distanced treat for your friends in the office.  Calling ahead for pickup will speed the process and keep everyone safe, while still enjoying your favorite foods and caffeinated beverages.  And when you call in, be sure to add a gift card or two to your order to help get your holiday shopping list completed.

Wanting to purchase a local item but not feeling safe about shopping?  Call ahead to your favorite shop and ask for curbside pickup!  Most local shops, like Lux Lizzies, and The Secret Ingredient, are offering curbside pickup and you can shop via Facebook or their website for items available and sales.   You can also pick up a gift card or two.

Catering:

Many local restaurants, like the Tin Lizzie Cafe in Richmond IN,  are still offering catering.  If you are having a small family gathering or want to treat your office to a delicious lunch, call ahead and ask for a catered platter of sandwiches and desserts.   You’ll be supporting a local business while also getting high-quality food.

There are so many ways to show your appreciation for the local business owners who sustain our economy by providing jobs and services we all enjoy, these are just a few we wanted to highlight.  Please remember to thank a local business owner and shop often with them during the holidays.  You are not only making their day, you are helping the backbone of the small town economy to survive.
