May 23, 2012

PRESS RELEASE
Submitted by: Cope Environmental Center, Centerville, IN

Hike Yourself Healthy 2012 is right around the corner! Our goal with this program is to get people OUTSIDE and appreciating the environment while developing a healthy habit.  A few quick details: This year, in honor of CEC’s 20th anniversary, we are challenging the community to walk 20,000 miles! Walk, run or hike ANYWHERE outdoors this summer, then log your miles online at HikeYourselfHealthy.org. It’s simple!

Program runs Memorial Day-Labor Day 2012

The website is up and running (www.HikeYourselfHealthy.org) and ready for you to visit. Remember, however, that you will not be able to log miles until Memorial Day (unless you participated in Relay for Life- you can count that time!).

City Fit, a city-wide health extravaganza on June 11th at Glen Miller Park, will be another great time to get some early Hike Yourself Healthy minutes in! Stop by the CEC booth while you’re there to sign up or just say hello!

If you are participating as a group (business or otherwise), and you would like to have a meter on the Hike Yourself Healthy website, just let us know! It’s a great way for your group to see that they are making progress. Remember, the top business or group (highest average minutes) gets prizes, too!

Prizes this year include: massages from Therapeutic Solutions, CEC gear, a pool party, local gift certificates, energy efficient light bulbs, meals from great Richmond restaurants and more! Remember, you don’t have to WIN the whole thing to get prizes! We draw names weekly from the pool of active
participants and hand out door prizes often!

If you set a goal, we can help hold you to it! Simply include your summer-long goal when you sign up and we’ll try to keep you motivated along the way. Remember, set goals for quality time spent outdoors with your kids or other children in your life. We’ll help you with that one, too.

So how do you sign up? Once Memorial Day is here, log your first minutes at www.HikeYourselfHealthy.org. It’s that easy!

Want to support this program and other educational efforts at CEC? Become a partner! Your gift of $100+ will get your name out to hundreds of local health-enthusiasts and support environmental education at the same time. We have great benefits for our supporters, so email Alison at a.clark@copeenvironmental.org if you’re interested in learning more.
