The first 150 participants who register at Festivalofmurals.com are invited to help paint a mural as part of the Festival of Murals festivities. The mural will be located in Richmond, Indiana on Sim Hodgkin Parkway underneath the Lamar Lundy Bridge, according to a recent press release.
Registration is open online now until the maximum number of 150 is reached. The painting will begin July 10, with July 17 as a rain date or finish date. Check-in on paint day is 8:30 to 9:00 a.m. The event is free and open to all. Minors must be accompanied by a guardian. Parking is not allowed on Sim Hodgkin Parkway but is available above on Hub Etchison and S.W. 1 St.

As one of the sponsors of Rockin’ The Gorge this year, July 16th, GoWayneCounty.com is excited to have this addition to the festivities. It will be a significant sight to enjoy.
Sponsors For The Mural Painting In The Gorge
include: Pete’s Corner Cafe and the future Firehouse BBQ and Blues Restaurant who will provide lunch to participants. Also Sherwin-Williams is donating the paint for this and all of the artist murals throughout Wayne County. AES Building Supplies, Richmond Industrial Supply, Inc., Osborn International, Richmond Hardware, City of Richmond and US Bank are providing other equipment and supplies.
Voting on all the community murals will begin sometime in August, after all the murals are completed. To vote on your favorite mural, once you receive a card and visit each mural site to have it stamped at participating businesses you can vote and return your card. There will be determined locations to turn in your card as well as to receive Festival of Mural t-shirts or other prizes. Go to the Festival of Murals site in August for more details.
Festival Director Pamela Bliss
is organizing her I.U. East mural painting students to design the mural, according to the recent press release. Donna Wood, Angela Appleberry and Eugena Monroe describe the 225 ft. long mural as “JAZZ IN THE GORGE: THE RIVER OF LIFE.” Fish jump, birds soar, plant life thrives, and colorful butterflies fly as the trumpeter blows forth the river of life in this community mural. Yes, jazz is blowing life into the Whitewater River Gorge as Wayne County celebrates its 200th year bicentennial. Be on the lookout for fast moving turtles!
If you would like to participate in the painting of this community mural go to Festival of Murals to sign up. You must be one of the first 150 to sign up in order to paint.
