The Wayne County Fairgrounds and Tom Raper Expo Center will be the destination for breeds of dogs from all over the United States this July. Thousands of dog fanciers from across the US and several foreign countries see this PREMIER dog show as a “must go to event.”
Our County was selected after an exhaustive search based upon the large capacity of campground area at the fairgrounds, its central location and the size of our expo center. After completing their search and the decision to move from its former Kalamazoo location, according to UKC President Wayne Cavanaugh, “we are thrilled with the results.”
This event, which will have an enormous economic impact on Wayne County estimated at over 1.5 million dollars, was brought to our community through the efforts of the Wayne County Convention and Tourism Bureau. After receiving the invitation to participate in the bidding process in 2009 and winning the bid in November, the staff has been working closely with the organization making plans for the upcoming UKC PREMIER Dog Show.
The dog show will include the Ultimate Air Dogs program as seen on ESPN, an exhilarating event to watch. The public is welcome to watch this and other competitions during the dog show July 9 – 11, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Cost is 5.00 per car or 10.00 for the weekend per car. Spectators are asked not to bring their pets to the show as it would be a distraction to those competing.
The United Kennel Club (UKC) has been in existence since 1898 and is the “largest all-breed performance-dog registry in the world, registering dogs from all 50 states and 25 foreign countries.”
We are very fortunate to have such a prestigious and exciting event come to Wayne County. Mark your calendars, dog lovers, for this amazing opportunity to see pure bred competition at its finest… right at our doorsteps!
