Ryan Shaw, who will portray Shrek, prepares for a previous performance at Civic Theatre

This weekend crowds will gather at Richmond Civic Theatre to celebrate their 500th show and to enjoy the cast and characters from Shrek the musical.

By all reports through social media, tickets are selling out fast.  So be sure to order your tickets online or you can visit the box office.  (box office hours are: 12:00 pm to 6:00 pm).

The excitement is mounting for opening night which is tomorrow, August 15, 2014.  The show will run for two weekends, with matinees on Sundays at 2:00 p.m.

Ryan Shaw, who will play the part of Shrek, has had a pivotal role as well in making this a community event.  Shrektacular was a big hit with kids and adults and was a great way to celebrate such a momentous occasion.  Cast members entertained crowds with songs from the show in their bright green Shrek t-shirts, and kids walked around with green Shrek ears.

Ryan shared that he is thrilled to have gotten this role, and after 14 years in Civic Theatre and dozens of shows Shaw adds that “Shrek is becoming my favorite show.”

Other members of the cast include Jeremy Williams, who will play Shrek’s sidekick “Donkey”, and Regina Branigan who will portray Fiona.  There will also be several children playing parts including Emerson Cozart who will be the Gingerbread Man.

With all the great talent from acting to professional make-up artists and backstage crews, this is bound to be a very special performance.  Break a leg! To all the cast and crew.  We can’t wait!
